The quality of a decision begins before the decision is made.
A structured conversation around a specific decision, built on the Boardcraft framework: what is being decided, how it is being decided, who really decides, and what risks may be going unnoticed.
Share the decision that is on the table.
Who the Board Diagnostic is for
- Boards of directors and their chairs
- Owners of family enterprises
- Founders in transition processes
- Family offices and private equity funds
- Organizations facing high-impact strategic decisions
What Board Diagnostic does not set out to do
- It does not replace the board's judgment. It helps structure better the decision the board has in front of it.
- It does not start from a predefined solution. It starts from the decision, the variables and the risks that need to be examined.
- It is not an open-ended consultancy. The diagnostic focuses on a specific decision and the questions that decision raises.
- It is not an indefinite process. It has a defined scope and working horizon.
The aim is not to decide for the board. It is to raise the quality of the decision.
What it evaluates
Decisions
The key decisions in progress or pending, and why they are blocked.
Decision architecture
What information supports it, what criteria guide it and what alternatives have been considered.
Risks
The strategic risks the organization is not seeing.
Decision governance
The real alignment between authority, accountability and decision-making power.
Value creation
The board's capacity to create value, not only to oversee it.
How the diagnostic is built
A structured evaluation that combines conversations with the main actors and a review of documentary evidence to understand how a specific decision is being made.
From acceptance of the request to the executive presentation of the findings.
Executive report
Prioritized findings, identified risks and recommendations to guide the next step.
How it works
Request
A specific decision, explained in a few lines. Share the decision that the board, the ownership or the management has open, and the context that makes it relevant.
Initial review
The team reviews the request within JVI's framework. The context, the nature of the decision and its fit with the Board Diagnostic are analyzed, under JVI's supervision.
Initial response within a maximum of five business days.
Diagnostic
A structured reading of the decision and its architecture. Sessions with the board, the ownership and key actors, complemented by a review of the available evidence.
Executive synthesis
Findings that make visible what matters for deciding. Executive presentation of the main findings, risks and points of attention identified during the diagnostic.
Next step
An informed definition of what to do next. Based on the findings, it is determined whether further intervention is needed and what its scope should be.
The aim is to understand the decision better before intervening on it.
Important decisions require a space of trust.
All information shared during a request or a diagnostic is treated as confidential board information. It is not published, not used in conferences, content or cases, and not shared with third parties or firms in the ecosystem without express written authorization.
Confidentiality is not an additional condition. It is part of the work.
Request received
We have received the information. The next step is to review the context of the decision and determine whether the Board Diagnostic is the right space to address it.
You will receive a reply within five business days.
